Mark HuiXu Rongzhen ~Violin and piano accompaniment~
A native of Hong Kong, a multi-talented musician. In his early years, he obtained the Royal Academy of Music's double academician diploma (FRSM) in violin and piano performance with honors. Later, he majored in violin and graduated from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and the Manhattan Conservatory of Music in New York. Awarded Bachelor of Music (First Class Honours) and Master of Music degrees. His mentors include Ms. Pan De, Mr. Cai Lu, Mr. Ma Cong, Professor Kei David, Professor Ma Zhongwei, Dr. Shi Minlun, Lucy. Ms. Lucie Robert, and Mr. Huang Weiming. During Xu's studies, he was awarded several scholarships for his outstanding performance, including the Qiu Qizhen Memorial Scholarship, the Ho Hung Ngai Family Foundation Outstanding Student Scholarship, the Chen Song'an Violin Performance Excellence Award, and the Wan Ruiting Music Fund.
Xu is passionate about orchestra performance and has extensive experience in symphony orchestra performance. He has been invited to be the principal of Schleswig-Holstein Festival Orchestra, Dutch National Youth Orchestra, Asian Youth Orchestra, and has participated in the performances of YouTube Symphony Orchestra, New York Symphony Orchestra, Hong Kong Sinfonietta and Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra , and visited many famous concert halls in New York, Berlin, Salzburg, Sydney, Zurich and Tokyo with the group, and performed with many conductors, including Eschenbach, Dixin. Thomas, DeWalt, Sharon, Billock, Sir Marina, Judt, etc. In 2014, Xu was appointed as the principal of the orchestra of the famous Broadway musical "The Phantom of the Opera", and launched a Hong Kong tour at the AsiaWorld-Expo.
As a soloist, Hui won the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts Concerto Competition and performed Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto with the Performing Arts Symphony Orchestra conducted by Koo Bolun. In addition, Xu has performed Vivaldi's "Four Seasons", Beethoven's "Triple Concerto", Mendelssohn's "E Minor Violin Concerto", Rachmaninoff's "Piano Concerto No. 2" and Geshu Chant's "Rhapsody in Blue", and has collaborated with many well-known artists, including Wang Jian, Zhang Weiqing, Liao Guomin, Liang Zhibang and Li Chengqian.
As a conductor, Xu received a full scholarship to participate in the Aspen Music Festival in the United States, where he was taught by many conductors, including Spano, Slajian, Kottersay, Debs and Woolf. His conducting mentors include David. Mr. Gilbert and Koo Bolun. In 2019, Hsu was invited to conduct the Dohnanyi Orchestra Budafok in Hungary and joined the Dohnanyi Academy, where he studied with Howleron. During the epidemic, he was selected to participate in the Saralast and legendary conductor Nim. Yu Feihe's online conducting masterclass. Hui is currently the Principal Conductor of the Hong Kong Festival Orchestra, and has led the orchestra to perform with many famous musicians, including violinist Joshua. Bell, pianist Zhang Weiqing, HK Duo, Li Yundi, cellist Wang Jian, oboe player and educator Professor Yao Sanglin and the Emperor Chorus. In addition, he also assisted the conductor Sinaisky and Grammy Award-winning composer Waitak to prepare the orchestra for rehearsals and performances.
In recent years, Xu has been active in the local music scene as a collaborating pianist, conductor and violin chamber musician. He has performed with Hong Kong Arts Festival, Tai Kwun, Famous Chorus Festival, CUHK Chorus, Tom Lee Music Live, Resonance Christian Choir, RubberBand, etc. Large local music groups perform together, as well as a number of internationally acclaimed artists. Currently, Xu is working as a music teacher and orchestra conductor at Mission Primary School in Kowloon Tong, and is actively involved in music education.
