Mr. Chan Ping Chi studied Bachelor of Music (Honours) at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, majoring in Double Bass under the tutelage of Mr. Zong Xiaoqian. Graduated with first-class honors in 2013, and won the Concerto Competition of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts in the same year and performed as a soloist with the Performing Arts Symphony Orchestra. During her studies, Chen actively participated in performances and master classes including Thomas Martin, Joel Quarrington, Christoph Wimmer, Peter Leerdam, Miloslav Jelínek, DaXun Zhang, David Sheets, Benedikt Hübner, Gottfried Engels, etc. He has cooperated with major orchestras including Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, Hong Kong Sinfonietta, etc. From 2011 to 2013, Chen served as the principal double bass of the Asian Youth Orchestra, and toured with the group to Southeast Asia and other places. In 2014, he traveled further to Europe to Austria to participate in the International Orchestra Institute of Attergau, performing on the same stage with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.

 

In addition to performing, Chen is actively involved in teaching and is currently serving as a tutor at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and the Macau Youth Orchestra, which will be established in 2022Essence Youth Orchestra, as the orchestra's artistic director. In terms of teaching, Chen has a unique teaching experience. In addition to teaching musical instrument performance skills, he also pays more attention to the physical and mental development of students, so that students can learn in a relaxed and pleasant environment, and understand the meaning and attitude of learning music.
